What it is

Filler Correction is the dissolution of hyaluronic acid filler using hyaluronidase — an enzyme that breaks down HA in hours. This is used for migration, overdone results, lumping, asymmetry, or patient preference to reverse.

At MODE, we welcome correction appointments without judgment. Whether you had filler elsewhere or with us years ago, dissolving it to reset your anatomy is often the right starting point for a new plan.

Filler Correction is also used in rare emergency cases (vascular compromise from filler placed incorrectly). As a legitimate clinical practice, we keep hyaluronidase on hand and can address emergency situations immediately when they arise.

  • MechanismHyaluronidase enzyme — breaks down hyaluronic acid filler
  • TreatsMigration, lumping, overdone results, asymmetry, patient preference
  • OnsetEffect begins within hours; full resolution 24-48 hours
  • Does NOT reverseSculptra and Radiesse — these are biostimulators that require time to metabolize naturally
  • Pairs withConsultation for re-planning your filler strategy afterward
The protocol

A deliberate sequence — not a one-time visit.

01

Consult

Assessment of what was placed, where, when, and what outcome you want. Correction may be partial (dissolve only misplaced/overdone areas) or full (reset all HA filler).

02

Dissolution

15-30 minutes. Small hyaluronidase injections into treated areas. Topical numbing if needed.

03

Resolution

HA begins breaking down within hours. Most patients see full effect within 24-48 hours, some up to 1 week for deep placement.

04

Re-plan (optional)

If you want to rebuild filler after correction, wait 2-4 weeks for tissue to settle before discussing a new plan.

Questions

What patients often ask.

Does hyaluronidase dissolve all types of filler?+
Only hyaluronic acid fillers (Juvederm, Restylane families, SkinVive). It does NOT dissolve Sculptra, Radiesse, or permanent fillers. If you have non-HA filler that needs correction, treatment is more limited — discuss during consult.
Is correction painful?+
Minimal discomfort. The injection itself is similar to original filler placement. No extended recovery.
Why does filler need correction sometimes?+
Filler can migrate, overfill, clump, or settle asymmetrically. This happens with any injector, any product — anatomy is variable, and filler is living tissue once in the body. Correction is part of responsible practice.
Can I re-filler immediately after correction?+
We recommend waiting 2-4 weeks for the tissue to settle and swelling to resolve before new filler placement. Jumping back in immediately risks repeating the same structural issue.
Will I look “deflated” after correction?+
Temporarily. If you had significant filler, removing it reveals your anatomy underneath — which may look flatter or hollowier than you’re used to. This is why many patients plan a new strategy afterward. But you are not damaged — your tissue is simply back to its natural state.
Who performs filler correction at MODE?+
Marisa Dulin, MSN, FNP-C and Torey Varner, RN.
