What it is

Dysport is Galderma’s botulinum toxin type A — abobotulinumtoxinA. It relaxes the same facial muscles as Botox but with slightly different pharmacology: faster onset (2-3 days vs 5-7) and wider diffusion per injection point.

That diffusion profile makes Dysport well-suited for broader treatment areas like the forehead. Restraint is still the rule at MODE — more diffusion means fewer injection points, not more product.

Note: Dysport units are not 1:1 with Botox units. Approximately 2.5 units of Dysport equal 1 unit of Botox. At $4.50 per Dysport unit, cost is comparable to Botox for equivalent effect.

  • MechanismTemporary muscle relaxation via abobotulinumtoxinA
  • Best forDynamic wrinkles — especially forehead (wider diffusion)
  • OnsetEffect begins ~2-3 days; full result at 10-14 days
  • Duration3-4 months
  • Dosing~2.5 Dysport units ≈ 1 Botox unit
The protocol

A deliberate sequence — not a one-time visit.

01

Consult

Your nurse injector assesses facial movement and recommends Dysport vs Botox vs Daxxify based on your anatomy and goals.

02

Injection

15-30 minutes with fine needles. Dysport’s wider diffusion often means fewer injection points than an equivalent Botox plan.

03

Two-week check

Dysport onset is faster than Botox — most patients feel the effect by day 7-10. Complimentary follow-up confirms placement.

04

Maintenance

Re-treatment every 3-4 months. Consistent cadence builds cumulative muscle memory.

Questions

What patients often ask.

Dysport vs Botox — how do I choose?+
Three meaningful differences: Dysport has faster onset (2-3 days), wider diffusion (fewer injection points for broad areas), and units are not interchangeable. Your injector recommends based on your facial anatomy and treatment goals, not brand preference.
Why does Dysport have a lower per-unit price?+
Because the units aren’t equivalent. It takes roughly 2.5 Dysport units to equal 1 Botox unit. Total cost for an equivalent treatment is very similar.
Will Dysport spread too much?+
The wider diffusion is a feature, not a bug, for the forehead. For precise areas like the glabella or crow’s feet, placement is adjusted accordingly. Trained injectors work with the diffusion pattern, not against it.
How long does Dysport last?+
3-4 months for most patients — similar to Botox.
Can I switch between Dysport and Botox?+
Yes. Many patients alternate. Your next visit just requires a fresh unit recalculation based on which product we’re using.
Who administers Dysport at MODE?+
Marisa Dulin, MSN, FNP-C and Torey Varner, RN — both trained and experienced with all three FDA-approved neuromodulators.
