What it is

Sculptra is a biostimulator — not a filler. Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible material that gently signals your skin to produce its own collagen. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Sculptra doesn’t add volume directly. It rebuilds structure from underneath.

Because the change is your own collagen, results feel like your face — quieter, more gradual, and structurally correct. Results typically hold 18 to 24 months, often longer with maintenance.

Sculptra is not for patients wanting immediate, obvious volume. It’s for patients who want the foundations of youth — the underlying scaffolding — rebuilt thoughtfully over months.

The protocol

A deliberate sequence — not a one-time visit.

01

Consult

A full facial assessment — structure, skin, history. We plan together with your nurse practitioner or injector.

02

First session

Injections placed in the treatment planes. Massage and aftercare instructions reviewed. 60-minute appointment.

03

Second session

4-6 weeks later. We review early response and refine placement in areas that need further support.

04

Three-month review

We look at your face together and decide whether a third session makes sense. Most patients see visible collagen change by this point.

05

Maintenance

Annual touch-ups (1 vial) keep collagen production supported. Typical patients maintain results for 2+ years.

Questions

What patients often ask.

Is Sculptra a filler?+
No — technically it’s a biostimulator. Fillers add volume directly via a substance (usually hyaluronic acid). Sculptra is poly-L-lactic acid: it triggers your body to produce its own collagen, which is the source of the structural change you see.
How long until I see results?+
Sculptra works gradually. Expect subtle change by 6-8 weeks, visible change by 3 months, and full results 4-6 months after your series. This is a feature — no one will notice you had “work done,” they’ll just notice you look rested.
How many vials will I need?+
Typical full-face treatment is 2-3 vials across 2-3 sessions. Some patients need 4+ if the structural loss is more advanced. Your nurse injector will map the treatment plan during consult.
How does Sculptra compare to Radiesse?+
Both are biostimulators. Sculptra (PLLA) creates the slowest, most gradual collagen response — best for large-area structural rebuilding. Radiesse (CaHA) provides immediate volume AND collagen stimulation — faster visible result, different texture. We often use them together, strategically, on different anatomical areas.
Is there downtime?+
Mild swelling and redness the day of treatment — usually resolves within 24-48 hours. You’ll be asked to massage the treated areas 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days (the “5-5-5” rule) to distribute the product evenly.
Will Sculptra look unnatural?+
Only if over-injected or placed incorrectly. Restraint-first treatment at MODE means we stop before fullness, not at it. The collagen builds slowly, giving us multiple opportunities to calibrate.
Who injects Sculptra at MODE?+
Marisa Dulin, MSN, FNP-C (Co-Owner, Nurse Practitioner) and Torey Varner, RN (Nurse Injector & Trainer). Both have extensive Sculptra experience.
