What it is

Botox is the original and most widely studied botulinum toxin type A — onabotulinumtoxinA from Allergan. It softens dynamic wrinkles by temporarily relaxing the muscles responsible for them: the forehead lines, the glabella (“11” lines between the brows), and the crow's feet around the eyes.

At MODE, Botox is placed with restraint. The goal is to quiet the muscle enough to prevent further etching of the line, not to freeze expression. Subtle, considered, age-well.

  • MechanismTemporary muscle relaxation via onabotulinumtoxinA
  • Best forDynamic wrinkles — forehead, glabella, crow’s feet
  • OnsetEffect begins ~3-5 days; full result at 2 weeks
  • Duration3-4 months; regular maintenance extends results
  • Paired withDermal fillers, Sculptra, Hydrafacial
The protocol

A deliberate sequence — not a one-time visit.

01

Consult

Full-face assessment with your nurse injector. We discuss your goals, facial movement, and a plan for restraint-first placement.

02

Injection

Treatment takes 15-30 minutes. Fine needles, typically with minimal discomfort. No anesthesia needed.

03

Two-week check

Most patients feel the full effect at day 14. Book a complimentary follow-up to confirm placement and make any small adjustments.

04

Maintenance

Typical cadence is every 3-4 months. Longer intervals are possible once the muscle has relaxed cumulatively over time.

Questions

What patients often ask.

How many units will I need?+
Typical dosing: 10-25 units for glabella (frown lines), 8-20 units for forehead, 8-15 units for each side of crow’s feet. Your nurse injector will recommend what fits your anatomy and goal.
What’s the difference between Botox and Dysport?+
Both are botulinum toxin type A. Dysport tends to diffuse slightly wider and onset slightly faster; Botox has the longest clinical track record. We offer all three FDA-approved neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, Daxxify) and recommend based on what best matches your facial movement.
Will I look frozen?+
Not when placed with restraint. The goal is softened expression, not absence of expression. We dose to keep natural movement while relaxing the over-active muscles.
How long does it last?+
3-4 months for most patients. Regular treatment over time often extends the duration because the muscle stays in a less-active state cumulatively.
Is there downtime?+
None. You can return to most activities immediately. We recommend avoiding vigorous exercise, lying flat, and rubbing the treatment area for 4 hours post-injection.
Who administers Botox at MODE?+
Both of our nurse injectors — Marisa Dulin, MSN, FNP-C (Co-Owner, Nurse Practitioner) and Torey Varner, RN (Nurse Injector & Trainer).
