BBL HEROic is Sciton's broadband light device — an advanced IPL (intense pulsed light) technology that delivers consistent, cumulative results for pigmentation, vascular lesions, redness, and sun damage across any body area.

A deliberate sequence — not a one-time visit.

Consult + skin assessment

Fitzpatrick skin type, pigmentation map, sun-exposure history. BBL suitability confirmed (darker skin types may need modified protocol).

Pre-treatment prep

2+ weeks of sun avoidance before treatment. Discontinue retinoids 3 days prior. Arrive with clean, product-free skin.

Treatment

Cooling gel applied. Sapphire cooling tip delivers pulsed broadband light — feels like warm rubber bands snapping. 30-60 minutes depending on area.

Recovery

Mild redness 2-24 hours. Pigmented spots darken then flake off over 7-10 days — this is the treatment working. SPF mandatory during entire healing.

Series

Primary correction typically 3-4 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart. Forever-young-BBL maintenance every 6-12 months.

What patients often ask.

What does BBL actually treat?+
Pigmentation (sun spots, age spots, melasma with care), vascular lesions (broken capillaries, rosacea flushing, ruddiness), and overall skin aging. It’s essentially Sciton’s term for their advanced IPL technology.
BBL vs Moxi — which should I get?+
Different jobs. BBL targets color (pigment + vascular). Moxi targets texture (fractional resurfacing for tone + fine lines). Many patients do both — either as combos or at separate visits.
What’s forever-young-BBL?+
A published Stanford study showed that regular BBL treatments (twice yearly over 10+ years) produced measurable skin gene-expression changes resembling younger skin. The protocol is low-dose, high-cadence. Ask us about maintenance plans.
Will pigment come back?+
Existing pigment fully removed with a full series typically stays gone. New sun exposure creates new pigmentation — which is why SPF is non-negotiable. Most patients do yearly touch-ups.
Is Clear-BBL the same device?+
Same device, different filter and protocol. Blue wavelength targets P. acnes bacteria in the follicle to reduce inflammatory acne. Can be combined with acne skincare for strongest results.
