What regenerative actually means for skin, and why the change is gradual.
Regenerative is a word used often in aesthetics. Here it means supporting the skin so it can repair and rebuild itself over time.
At MODE, a medspa in North Scottsdale, regenerative means supporting the skin so it can repair and rebuild itself: treatments that ask your skin to make more of its own collagen, so texture, tone, and firmness improve gradually rather than being corrected for a season.
In March, our practice shared a short note on Instagram titled “What regenerative actually means for skin and structure.” This is the longer version: what the word means when we use it, why skin changes the way it does, and which treatments at MODE Aesthetics and Wellness do the regenerative work. Where the note’s words are quoted, they are quoted. Everything else comes from our treatment pages, linked where each fact lives.
What does regenerative mean in aesthetics?
“Regenerative treatments focus on supporting the skin’s ability to repair and rebuild itself. Instead of only correcting what we see, the goal is to strengthen the skin from within.”

The distinction matters. A corrective treatment changes what you see today: a pigmented spot lifted, a line softened. A regenerative treatment asks the skin to produce more of its own collagen and elastin, so the surface improves because the structure under it is stronger. Most of what we plan at MODE is the second kind, which is why the practice describes itself as regenerative, by design.
Why does skin lose firmness and texture over time?
In the note’s words, over time the skin naturally loses collagen, elasticity, and structural support, and “these changes affect texture, firmness, and how the face ages.” The concerns that come out of that process are the ones we see most in the treatment room, and each has a page of its own: rough texture and uneven tone, fine lines and wrinkles, and loss of firmness. Regenerative care works on the foundation those concerns share rather than on each one in isolation.
Which treatments at MODE in Scottsdale are regenerative?
The note lists three groups: lasers like BBL HEROic and Moxi, microneedling, and regenerative injectables. Medical grade skincare between visits belongs on the list too. Each works by encouraging the skin to rebuild itself, and each is planned as a series with a review point and a maintenance rhythm, because collagen is built over months.
SkinPen microneedling
Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, uses the FDA cleared SkinPen device to create controlled micro injuries in the skin. Your body responds by producing new collagen and elastin, which improves texture and pore size, acne scarring, fine lines, and firmness. Most patients complete three to six sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, results build over the following four to six weeks, and maintenance is annual. Regenerative microneedling is the same treatment followed by Lilium Pure Advanced Biologics pressed into the newly opened channels, with the same downtime. Microneedling of the face starts at $425.
Moxi laser
Moxi is Sciton’s 1927 nm fractional laser. Rather than removing the surface, its wavelength creates thousands of microscopic columns in the skin that stimulate collagen as they heal, which is how it improves tone, texture and pores, early pigmentation, and fine lines. The wavelength has low melanin absorption, so Moxi is used across all skin types with settings calibrated to yours. Recovery is two to five days of bronzing and slight roughness, primary correction is three to four sessions spaced four weeks apart, and maintenance is quarterly. Moxi of the face starts at $700. Regenerative Moxi pairs the laser with Lilium Pure Advanced Biologics in the same visit, delivered by two providers in sequence.
BBL HEROic
BBL HEROic is Sciton’s broadband light device. Light between 500 and 1200 nm targets melanin and hemoglobin, so BBL treats pigmentation, facial redness, vascular lesions, and sun damage across any body area. Primary correction is typically three to four sessions spaced four weeks apart, then forever young BBL maintenance every six to twelve months. That maintenance rhythm comes from a published Stanford study, described on our BBL page, in which regular treatments twice a year over ten or more years produced skin gene expression changes resembling younger skin. BBL of the face is $550.
Lilium Pure Advanced Biologics
“They can be used on their own, or combined with treatments like MOXI and microneedling to enhance results.”

Lilium Pure Advanced Biologics is the regenerative injectable the note refers to: a perinatal tissue allograft made from pure amniotic fluid and Wharton’s jelly, the connective tissue inside the umbilical cord, both naturally dense in hyaluronic acid, collagen, peptides, and growth factors. At MODE it is used topically, spread across the skin right after a Moxi laser or SkinPen microneedling pass while the micro channels are still open, and by injection as part of aesthetic treatment of the face, neck, and hands, most often for skin laxity and volume loss. It is not stem cell therapy. Injections of it are placed by Marisa Dulin, MSN, FNP-C, and pricing depends on the volume and route, confirmed at a consultation.
ZO Skin Health between visits
The note ends its list with medical grade skincare, and that is where regenerative care lives between appointments. MODE is a ZO Skin Health authorized practice, and the ZO Skin Health regimen you follow at home is calibrated at your consultation and adjusted as your skin changes, so the in clinic work above is supported every day rather than once a quarter.
Why is the change gradual, and how long does it take?
“The goal isn’t dramatic change overnight. It’s gradual improvement in skin quality, structure, and resilience.”

Collagen is built over months, not days. On our skincare page we put the full collagen response to a layered plan at three to six months, and every treatment above is planned around that: a series first, a review point, then a maintenance rhythm of annual microneedling, quarterly Moxi, or BBL every six to twelve months. The change you see at the end of a series is collagen and elastin your skin made itself, which is a different thing from a product placed under it. In the note’s words, regenerative care focuses on the foundation of the skin, and when the skin and structure are stronger, other treatments perform better.
Who plans regenerative skin treatments at MODE in Scottsdale?
Skin and laser treatments at MODE Aesthetics and Wellness are performed by Heather Cyr, LME, CLT, our co-owner, a licensed medical aesthetician and certified laser technician for more than 18 years with ZO Skin Health certification, and by Sara Espinoza, LME, CLT, trained through the Obagi Skin Health Institute. Injections are placed by Marisa Dulin, MSN, FNP-C, our co-owner and nurse practitioner. A plan starts with a Skin Health Consultation, $150 and fully redeemable toward products or treatment, or with complimentary time with an aesthetician when you are not sure what fits. Our office is at 7420 E Pinnacle Peak Rd, Suite 120, on the Pinnacle Peak corridor in North Scottsdale. We see patients from DC Ranch, Silverleaf, Whisper Rock, Grayhawk, Troon, and McDowell Mountain Ranch, from Paradise Valley, and from across Scottsdale.
Every medspa calls its treatments regenerative now, and I have been told more than once that the newest device is the answer. What does regenerative actually mean at MODE?
That skepticism is earned. At MODE, regenerative means a plan for your skin's own collagen, not a device. A Skin Health Consultation with Heather Cyr, LME, CLT, a licensed medical aesthetician and laser technician for more than 18 years, or Sara Espinoza, LME, CLT, is $150, redeemable toward products or treatment, and compares BBL HEROic, Moxi, and SkinPen microneedling. If none fits, you hear that in the consult.
The full protocol, pricing by area, and recovery for each treatment are on its own page above, and the consultation is where the plan for your skin is written.
